Liza is a Community Engagement Specialist for The Center for Volunteer Caregiving. The Center is celebrating it's 25th anniversary of providing volunteer services to improve the lives of seniors, caregivers, and adults with disabilities. Liza has 20 years experience identifying solutions to urgent issues impacting the community. She is recognized as a state leader through the PTA and Mom Congress for problem solving and social media expertise.
Liza is a journalist and author. She writes regular blog posts for her LinkedIn page that has more than 800 followers and the blog page on this website had more than 18,000 visitors in the last year.
Liza recently published her Grandfather's sermons and essays into a collection titled "Grandpa's Whit and Wisdom."
Rev. Whitford Frank Walter's work was tucked into a box with his typewriter. The box was discovered in 1987 in the attic of Liza's childhood home. Since then, Liza began to compile the messages, some on scribbled on bits of paper into the work that is now available for all to read. Take a walk along the Grandpa's journey to the YMCAs in the early 1900s as he encouraged young men and as he continued his writing as a pastor to small eastern North Carolina congregations. During Liza's time as the NBC-17 education reporter, she covered a 5 county area focusing on news parents can use and compiled weekly reports on What's Clicking in the Schools. During Liza's time as Wake PTA Council President, she was the Parent Tip feature reporter/writer for The School Connection (Wake County Public School System's monthly television program) broadcast on local public access stations.
